Definition
You use hierarchy derivation to specify the source from which the hierarchy information for planning is to be derived.
You can use three different types of hierarchies as a source for hierarchy derivation:
- External BW hierarchy - The nodes of the external hierarchy are assigned directly to the characteristics of the planning area.
- CRM organizational structure - technically also an external BW hierarchy, but it only consists of nodes with the characteristic 0ORGUNIT (relevant for the planning application Sales Planning).
- Attributes - More an hierarchical display of attributes than a real hierarchy. Example: currency as the root node with the company code dependent on that and the sales organization dependent on that.
For each node of the source hierarchy, you can determine in hierarchy derivation whether the InfoObject of the source hierarchy is to be copied (denoted by fixed indicator) or whether a characteristic for the planning area is to be assigned to the node (denoted by the To be derived indicator). By setting the To be derived indicator, you can maintain the assignment under Characteristic Arrangement.
