Definition

Because of different situations in the definition of the environment and the layout, there are certain restrictions for placing characteristics in the data or lead columns. Correspondingly, the system activates or deactivates the radio buttons involved on the first screen of the Layout Builder. The various symbols display why it results in the restriction. Note that for a lead column in the case of user-defined lead columns the same restrictions always apply as for data columns.

@KG@
Only those characteristics can be used in a static data column that have a selection in the level (and NOT in the package).

@4M@
If a variable is used for a characteristic in the level, then this variable may only contain a characteristic. If a variable is used in static data columns and the characteristic involved is compounded then the higher-level characteristic must be restricted to a single value in the level at runtime.

@I2@
If a characteristic is used as a dynamic characteristic, then the two restrictions named above do not apply. Since the selection of the dynamic characteristic must always take place using the selection box, dynamic characteristics are locked against input in the selection list. If the dynamic characteristic is compounded to a further characteristic, then the system places this higher-level characteristic in the header area of the layout.
