Definition
Planning layouts are divided into two groups with the selection 'Non Hierarchical Data Model' or 'Hierarchical Data Model', which differ on the basis of the data model in the functionality offered.
- A hierarchical data model exists when you want to use a BW Hierarchy with Postable Nodes or a BPS Characteristic Hierarchy in the layout. In exactly these cases, values can be entered to nodes of the hierarchy. In such a model, a hierarchy for correct interpretation and processing of data must always be referred to in addition to the transaction data. For this reason, this option can only be changed in the Layout Builder and not interactively in the planning session.
- BW hierarchies, which only contain text nodes, behave analogue to a total or to subtotals. In this model, nodes with lower-level nodes such as totals or subtotals cannot carry any own values. Thus, the values of totals or hierarchy nodes are only calculated at runtime and have no representation on the database. The different possibilities to set the totaling on the third screen of the Layout Builder can therefore also be changed in the planning session.
