Definition

With the options 'top-down' or 'bottom-up', you determine the summarization logic, if you are working in a hierarchical data model. The nodes of a hierarchy are ready for input in this model, and an end node belongs to every node with lower-level elements, which carries the not yet distributed value (or the 'remaining budget') in budgeting terminology. These end nodes are never ready for input.

  • With the option 'top-down' the system behaves as follows: If the value of a node is changed, then the end node change is transported with the 'remaining budget' of the higher-level node.
  • With the option 'bottom-up' the system behaves as follows: If the value of an end node is changed, then the values of the end nodes are simply totaled; the values of the end node with the 'remaining budget' does not change. This is only the case if the value of a node with lower-level elements is changed, then the change is updated to the end node belonging to the node with the 'remaining budget'.

You will find further information under the keywords:hierarchical data model, BPS characteristic hierarchies and BW hierarchies with postable nodes.
