Definition

The indicator 'BPS Characteristic Hierarchies' switches manual planning into a special mode in which the system generates a characteristic hierarchy from the sequence of the characteristics in the lead column. Every characteristic corresponds to a hierarchy level in the hierarchy.

The structure of the hierarchy is explained in an example: In the lead columns of the layout, the characteristics 'Article group' and 'Article' can be found (in this sequence). The key figure 'Value' is in the data column. The characteristic combinations [#, #], [AG1, #], [AG1, A1], [AG1, A2] were entered, as well as the combinations [AG2, #], [AG2, A3] and [AG2, A4]. In this '#' indicates the initial characteristic value 'Not assigned'.

Article group    Article     Value

Article group    Article    350

#    #    200

AG1    Article     100

    #    50

    A1    30

    A2    20

AG2    Article     50

    #     20

    A3    20

    A4    10

The additional combinations are generated by the system. These are the hierarchy nodes of the characteristic hierarchy. A combination of characteristic values belongs to every hierarchy node, which has the value 'do not distribute'. The combination [#, #] belongs to the total [article group, article], the accompanying value 200, is also on the level article group, article not yet distributed. The combination [AG1, #] belongs to the subtotal [AG1, article] and so on. Such a combination is indicated with 'dummy page'.

The indicator 'BPS Characteristic Hierarchies' has the following effect:

  • The system generates the subtotals named above. These subtotals are only available at runtime, they are not stored in the database. If in manual planning the planning layout is displayed with MS Excel, the visualization of the hierarchies occurs with the Excel control levels.
  • The dummy pages for the subtotals are not ready for input.
    • When choosing the option 'top-down', the first postable node is also not ready for input.
    • When choosing the option 'bottom-up', all the postable nodes are ready for input. There are exceptions to this, which are listed in some of the following points.
  • A subtotal is ready for input if an accompanying combination of characteristic values was entered, which contains not yet distributed values (that means if the accompanying dummy page is available).
    • When choosing the option 'top-down', changing the value of the subtotal causes a corresponding change of the value in the dummy sheet. For example, if the value 100 of the subtotal [AG1, article] is increased to 110, the system adapts the value of [AG1, #] to 60 as well as the value of [#, #] to 190. Increasing the value in a page - for example [AG1, A1] - decreases the value of the dummy page [AG1, #] correspondingly.
    • However, when choosing the option 'bottom-up', the entry to a page is not transported from the higher-level page, but the value of the higher-level node changes correspondingly. Only an entry to a node with lower-level elements changes the relevant dummy page.
  • If the dummy page belonging to a subtotal is missing, or is locked in a data slice for planning, then the accompanying subtotals and the lower level elements of this subtotal from the following levels are not ready for input if the mode 'top-down' is set. In the 'bottom-up' mode, only the relevant subtotal is not ready for input
  • Choose 'Check' to automatically sort newly entered lines (that means new combinations of characteristic values) in manual planning.
  • The characteristic combinations that contain initial values for some characteristics but do not fit in the characteristic hierarchy are not displayed in manual planning. Combinations of this type can also not be re-entered. An example of a combination of this type is [#, A1].
  • If the 'Check figures entered' indicator is selected, the system checks whether the values in the dummy pages are greater than or equal to zero. If this is the case, an error message is created. Data cannot be saved. If you are using plus/minus sign reversal for a key figure and the dummy leaf a the minus sign '-', an error message is created if the value is greated than or equal to 0. See also the documentation on plus/minus sign reversal.
