Definition
Characteristic in which a reference interest rate is defined.
The reference interest rate is the rate on which the contract interest rate in the condition items is based. This rate is taken directly as the contract interest rate for the variable interest calculation or is part of the formula for calculating the contract interest rate.
Examples of reference interest rates are LIBOR (London Interbank Offered Rate) and FIBOR (Frankfurt Interbank Offered Rate). Internal base interest rates, to which financial transactions such as loans can be linked, are also treated as reference interest rates.
