Definition
A listed option is a forward transaction that is traded on a forward exchange and that is binding for one party. The purchaser of an option has the right to exercise that option. The purchaser must pay the seller an option premium for this right. The vendor must fulfill the conditions of the transaction if the purchaser exercises the option.
The option style classifies an option by the dates on which the option may be exercised. The following option styles are supported:
- 1 - European:
European-style options are options that can only be exercised at the date of expiration.
- 2 - American:
American-style options are options that can be exercised at the strike price at any time before or on the date of expiration.
