Definition
A derivative contract specification contains rules and conditions that are agreed upon at an exchange and that form the basis for a derivative contract.
The derivative category classifies the kind of derivative contract. The following derivative categories are supported:
- Commodity Futures
A future is a forward transaction that is traded at a forward exchange and that is binding for both parties. It has a standardized issue structure.
- Listed Options
A listed option is a forward transaction that is traded on a forward exchange and that is binding for one party. Unlike futures, the risk is not evenly distributed in this case. The purchaser (owner of the long position) of an option has the right to exercise. The purchaser must pay the seller an option premium for this right. The vendor (writer, owner of the short position) must fulfill the conditions of the transaction if the purchaser exercises it.
