Definition

A mask is a definition how specific field values that are read into the system should be interpreted.

Example

N.NNN for a quantity field tells the system that the last three digits of the quantity field are to be interprested as the digits after the decimal point.

DDMMYYYY for a date tells the system to interpret the date with beginning day, then month and year. ( The SAP internal format is YYYYMMDD and as such the default value.)
