Definition

To specify the actual length of the encoded data, the length specification in the Application Identifier (AI) is first multiplied with the AI length-specification multiplication factor and then added to this value.

Example

The AI lot number, which is defined in the EAN128 standard, is 23 and is increased by one character for length specification.

The bar code (233) 1233426 indicates that the length of the encoded data is 7 when the multiplication factor is 2 and the addition factor is 1 (3 * 2 + 1= 7). In other words, this means that 7 characters must follow the AI (233), and these 7 characters make up the lot number.
