Documentation
Definition
Formats (for example,: RAW, OTF, DOC, PPT,...) describe the syntactical structure of a document. In addition to SAP's own formats (such as OTF for SAPscript or Smart Form documents or RAW for text documents), there are a number of other formats that can be processed via the frontend. They normally have the same name as the file suffix. For example, Microsoft Word documents normally have the format 'DOC'; Microsoft Powerpoint documents normally have the format 'PPT'.
In the SAPconnect node, you set the target format you want SAP internal formats to be converted into during sending. Here, the SAP internal formats are combined into format categories.
The device type maintenance allows you to assign a device type to a target format. This is needed if information of a certain device type (formatting, character set, driver) is required for converting into the format in question. Examples of formats that require a device type are: PS, PCL, PDF and TXT (the latter for converting an SAPscript / Smart Form document).
