Definition

Logical data base read requests can be transferred to the local SAP table buffers and thus lead to a considerable increase in system performance compared to data base calls.

Here, a distinction is made between direct and sequential read requests. Sequential read requests can generally only use the 100%-table buffer, whereas the direct request to a line in a table can also be processed by the 'partial' buffer.

The basic prerequisite for buffer access is a corresponding entry in the SAP Data Dictionary for the respective table. The buffer size is defined in the SAP application server startup profile.
