Definition
Logical data base read requests can be made to the local SAP table buffers and thus considerably increase system performance compared to data base calls.
Here, a distinction is made between direct and sequential read requests. Sequential read requests can generally only be made to the so-called 100%-table buffer whereas direct requests to a line in a table can also be made to the 'partial' buffer.
The basic prerequisite for buffer access is a corresponding entry in the SAP Data Dictionary for the respective table. The buffer size is defined in the SAP application server startup profile.
