Definition

Type of agent. An application server contains the following agents:

  • Dispatcher: performs a variety of tasks:
    • Administration: starts and stops the server, restarts processes, performs periodic monitoring functions
    • Communication with connected SAP GUIs
    • Communication with the message server
  • Work process: main task is executing ABAP programs
  • ICMAN: implements each Internet-based communication (e.g. HTTP, SMTP).
  • Gateway: implements RFC-based commincation
