Documentation
Definition
The trace can be switched on for exactly one user or for a group of users selected using a pattern. You can use the standard wildcards for the pattern.
The system displays whether or not the performance trace is switched on. If the trace is switched on, the system also specifies the trace types switched on by which user and for which user.
The system also shows whether the progress display is activated or deactivated. The progress display only takes effect when displaying the performance trace. It shows the progress when creating the trace list. You can follow the steps reading the trace records, formatting the trace records, and writing the trace records. You can activate and deactivate the progress display using the "Edit" menu or the relevant function keys. If you call transaction ST05 repeatedly, the last used setting is used again. If there is no saved setting of this type, the progress display is activated.
If a trace type is already switched on for a user or group of users, you can switch on an additional trace type for this group ( or for all users if the trace was already switched on for all users). This is not possible for an additional user (or group of users) until the trace that is currently switched on has been switched off.
The process described here only refers to Transaction ST05. If you use Transaction ST01 to change the trace switch, this change is immediately effective. When you switch on the SQL trace, this switches it on for all users. Switching off the trace is always effective, regardless of whether the trace was switched on for all or only one user (using Transaction ST05).
