Definition
Work center identification determines how the individual work center computer is identified within the SAP system. The aim is to make a static identification of all work centers possible and this is to be user-independent, that is, the work center ID is to be valid no matter which SAP user is currently logged on.
The following options are supported:
- Identification via a number that is stored in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
The prerequisites for this are that: - the SAPGUI is installed on the relevant work center
- the PC has a 32-Bit-Windows operating system
- the relevant user at least has authorization to write in the registry when creating the settings for his or her work center
- Identification via host name
The prerequisite is that the host name is unique for the whole client.
You can also allow the work center settings to be linked to a user. This means that the telephone number that the user calls from is valid for every work center they log on to, regardless of whether they have actually deflected their telephone number. This setting should only be selected as a temporary solution if neither of the mechanisms described above are available and if the user works at his or her own work center only.
If no type of work center identification is possible and the static user linkage is switched off, users have to re-enter their data each time they log on in order to be able to use telephone integration.
When the settings are made, a distinction is made between GUI and ITS work centers. A SAPGUI is installed on GUI work centers, meaning that it is possible to access the registry. In contrast, a web browser is installed on ITS work centers. In this case, it is not possible to access the registry from the SAP system and, at best, host names can be used.
