Definition

Describes the internal dictionary structure of the segment.

Use

The segment type is release-independent; the internal dictionary structure is not. Other fields can be added in a new release meaning that there is a new version of the segment or a new segment definition. As a result of this versioning, IDocs can also be swapped between systems with different releases.

The technical key of all SAP segment types starts with E1, all installation-specific segment types (customer developments) start with Z1 or a customer prefix such as /SAPKUNDE/.
