Definition
This field specifies the width of a table column, as defined by the number of columns it contains according to Screen Painter. It is identical to the visual length of the field or header.
Effect
If the column width is smaller than the defined length of the field concerned, the field is scrollable.
If the column width is greater than the defined length of the field, the table column is widened by the appropriate number of characters. This has no effect on the number of characters in the input field which can accept input.
In both cases, the header is displayed in the width of the visualized length of the field.
Usage
The visualized length of a field should be increased if the column header cannot be read in full.
It should be reduced if far fewer characters are usually entered than specified in the defined length. The header should, however, also be fully readable here.
