Definition

Supported system names are:

  • DEV = Development and test system (placeholder)
  • PRD = Production system (placeholder)
  • <SID> = Name of a system from the system landscape

Using the System Administration Assistant, you can currently administrate a 1-, 2-, or multiple-system landscape.

In a 2-system landscape, the system assumes that it consists of a test and a production system.

When defining a structure node in the System Administration Assistant, you can specify if the node refers to the test or production system. You can also define nodes that are generally valid as well.

The names DEV and PRD are converted to the real system names when you display the System Administration Assistant. In maintenance mode, the descriptions DEV and PRD are always used.

One-system landscapes are always production systems. However, you can set tasks when you maintain the system name DEV or PRD. This allows you to easily switch from a 1-system landscape to a 2-system landscape at a later time.

If you have a multiple-system landscape with at least 3 systems, you can use the system names directly since a clear difference regarding system use may not be possible anymore.
