Definition
Logging setting of a data element to carry out the creation of change documents.
Use
After choosing a table, you can activate or deactivate the logging of changes to the content of the table fields linked to one or more data elements that you then select.
- If no change document object exists for the selected table, the system issues a corresponding warning. A change in the logging settings then generally has no effect for the relevant data element (exception: use in non-registered change document objects).
- If you change the logging settings for a data element, this affects all table fields on which this data element is based, system-wide.
You can only change the logging setting if the selected data element is not currently locked by another user or request. When the changed setting is saved, the system first creates an inactive version of the changed data element. Only when you activate the settings do you generate an active version of the changed logging setting.
Dependencies
To carry out the creation of change documents and thus be able to change the logging setting of data elements, the underlying table must be contained within a change document object. Furthermore, this change document object must be implemented in the application in which the data change is to be logged. Otherwise, the table can only be logged in its entirety.
Whether a table is contained within a change document object and this has been implemented in the application is defined in the system and can only be changed via a modification.
