If material shortages exist, this corresponds to the quantity:

Total requirements + Minimum stock - Total receipt quantity
(Total requirements and total receipt quantity referring to the existing planning elements up to the current planning element)

Missing quantities that arise due to temporary shortages are reduced again due to subsequent receipt quantities.

(Replenishment proposals are not considered here.)
