Definition

The 'source system ID' (characteristic 0SOURSYSTEM) is a 2-character abbreviation for an individual source system or a group of source systems in BW. The source system ID is updated with the ID of the source systems that provide the data. If you use characteristic 'source system ID', you must assign an ID to each source system. You can do this in the Data Warehousing Workbench or in the master data maintenance for the characteristic.

Otherwise an error will occur when you load master data for the characteristics that use 'source system ID' as attribute or in compounding because in a data transfer, the assignment of the source system to a source system ID determines the value to be updated for characteristic 'source system ID'.

Master data local to the source system (or to a group of source systems)

If in BW you have master data that is local to the source system, you can compound the relevant characteristics to the characteristic 'source system ID'. In this way you can separate identical characteristic values that specify different objects in different systems. You can find details about this in Note 0184948.

Copying from one BW system to another BW system is an exception here. The source system IDs are copied from the data of the source BW system. The ID of the source BW system may not be used here because otherwise different objects that differ in the source BW by compounding to the source system IDs overlap.

If when transferring data from one BW system to another BW system the source system IDs of the source BW system are copied and if these IDs are not yet known in the target BW system, they must first be created in the target system. You can therefore create source system IDs for logical systems that are not used as BW source systems.

Report/report interface and Drag&Relate

Prior to Release BW 3.0, the source system ID characteristic was also used for the return jump to the source system. Because it is not unique, however, you should use the characteristic source system (0LOGSYS) as attribute starting with Release 3.0.

For transition, you can set a logical system for each source system ID as default system. It is then used for the report/report interface and for Drag&Relate for the return jump as long as the source system characteristic is not yet filled or available.

Deletion or removal of a source system ID

You can only delete the assignment of a source system ID if it is no longer used in master or transaction data. Use the function Release unused IDs to check this.
