Documentation
Definition
The name of the terminal should identify the monitor, keyboard and mouse, from which particular actions were initiated.
When used as a selection criterion, case (uppercase or lowercase) is not relevant. Generic search is not supported.
For UNIX workstations, PCs, X-Terminals etc., the terminal name is the same as the computer name. For computers with (the potential for) several workplaces, the names are extended: For X: appended colon and then a consecutive number.
Note: Non-graphics terminals are frequently identified by their device names in the directory "/dev/".
Note: For long computer names, the terminal name can become so long that it is saved in a distorted form.
