Definition
A three-character ID for system log messages. Each ID consists of a letter of the alphabet as the first character and two alpha-numeric characters. Message IDs are therefore divided into groups of 26, such as A01 to A0Z. One or more of these groups can be assigned to messages output by a particular component or in the course of a particular type of processing.
Procedure
If you are selecting system log messages for display, you can use the ID system to help select the messages you want. Possible IDs are:
- A: ABAP messages
- B: Database interface and SQL
- DD: Data Dictionary
- E: Background processing
- F: Spool system and TemSe (temporary sequential files) database
- GE: Enqueue (locking of database objects with SAP lock objects)
- P: Roll and page buffers
- Q: System start and stop; system profile; APPC interface; message server
- R: Semaphores, shared memory; roll out and page free; SAP lock objects; update
- S: SAP CPIC gateway process.
If you are adding system log messages, check the IDs to find the area in which you should add your messages.
