Definition
Here you define if the characteristic is permitted as a property for documents.
InfoProvider data can be commented upon in BW. You can assign a comment for a combination of characteristic values (more generally: any document).
Example:
Comments are to be written in reports for the combination Country and Month. The comment:
"The sales in January in the USA were so bad because the dollar rate was extremely low"
is assigned to the characteristic value "USA" of characteristic Country and characteristic value "January" of characteristic Month.
Technically speaking, the comment is created with the document properties Country =USA and Month="January". To do so, characteristics Country and Month must be activated as document properties using this indicator. Only if this is the case, is a property (attribute) generated for each of these characteristics in the meta model of document management (Document Modeling Workbench). Only then is a comment stored with the document properties Country and Month.
Thus, here you are determining both technically and semantically for which characteristics documents for InfoProvider data can be stored. All characteristics not activated as a document property are ignored when creating and selecting the documents.
In the example above, characteristics Country and Month, at least, must be activated as document properties. As and when required, you can also activate additional characteristics as document properties. However, we recommend you activate as few characteristics as possible as document properties, in order to maintain a clear display and selection of documents.
