Definition

The data element describes the various ways that data can be read in CO-PA.
There are three possible data sources:

  • The summarization levels
  • The segment level
  • The line items

When reading from summarization levels, it is possible to read:

  • The records from the summarization level
  • The line items written since the last time the summarization level was updated (which are therefore not yet considered in the summarization level).

When the line items are accessed, the data can be read according to the current structure of the profitability segments or according to the structure at the time when the line item was posted. The system always takes the current structure when reading from the summarization levels and the segment level.

With the automatic selection of data source, the system starts by searching for an appropriate summarization level. If it cannot find one, it searches for the segment level. If it cannot find this either (perhaps because characteristics have been selected that can only be found in the line items), it will go back to the line items in sessions "12" and "13". (Note: this can lead to performance problems!)
