Documentation
Definition
A revision level, together with a change number, identifies a version of a material or document.
Procedure
You can assign a revision level if you use a change number that has a specific valid-from date to make a change.
Proceed as follows:
- Changing a Material
You can assign a revision level to a material when you process the material master record itself, or you can enter a revision level in the BOM header when you process a material BOM.
- Changing a Document
- You define for each document type whether revision levels are active for documents. Define a document status that has the released indicator. As soon as you process a document of this document type with a change number and assign this status, a revision level is assigned automatically.
Dependencies
Before you can assign a revision level, you must define the revision
level. From the main R/3 menu, choose Logistics -> Central functions -> Engineering change management, then Revision level -> Material rev. level or Revision level -> Document rev. level.
To define how revision levels are assigned, go to Customizing step Set up control data.
Supplementary Documentation - REVLV 0001
Use
The revision level forms the link between a material with a particular change status and a specific change number. The system determines the valid-from date from the relevant change master record.
Procedure
- If you want to assign a revision level, please note:
You assign the revision level when you process the bill of material. To do this, choose menu option Extras, function New revision level.
From settings in the IMG (engineering change management), the system determines the next available revision level.
- If you want to edit a bill of material with reference to a revision level, please note:
- Enter the revision level. If required, you can display the possible entries (a list of the change numbers used to make changes to this material that have a revision level assigned).
- The system determines the change number that corresponds to the revision level selected for this material.
The bill of material is displayed as valid on the valid-from date of the change master.
Supplementary Documentation - REVLV 0002
Use
The system determines the change number for when the revision level is valid and lists all the items which meet the selection criteria and are valid on the valid-from date in the change master.
Supplementary Documentation - REVLV 0003
Procedure
If you enter a revision level, the system uses the BOM which has this revision level as a basis.
If you do not enter a revision level, the system uses the BOM which is valid on the posting date as a basis.
Supplementary Documentation - REVLV 0004
Procedure
You can display all revision levels from any header detail screen by choosing menu option Environment, function Display revision levels.
Dependencies
The system determines the revision level for the valid-from date on the initial screen as the:
- date you entered in the Valid from field
- valid-from date of the change master for the change number you entered
Note:
You can display all revision levels from any header detail screen by choosing menu option Extras, function Display revision levels.

Use
If the MPN material can only be created from a certain revision level, please enter it.

Use
The revision level for a specific change status of the document is the link between the document and one specific change number. The valid-from date for the change status comes from the change master record.
Procedure
- If you want to assign a revision level, please note:
You assign the revision level when processing the document structure. To do this, choose menu option Details, function New revision level.
The system finds the next revision level defined in Customizing (Engineering change management).Note:
You can only assign a revision level to a document structure if the document version concerned has a document status which releases the version.
- If you want to edit the document structure using a revision level, please note:
Enter the revision level. The system finds the appropriate change numberfor this revision level and document. You see the document structure as it stands on the valid-from date of the change master record.
Supplementary Documentation - REVLV 0015
Procedure
The system assigns the revision level to the document automatically if the document
- is linked to a change number
- has a document status which releases the document
Dependencies
The system makes the following checks as appropriate:
- If the document status is defined such that an object link is required before the document is released, the system checks whether there is a master record for each object linked to the document.
- If the document has subordinate documents, each of these subordinate documents must also be released.
Supplementary Documentation - REVLV 0016
Procedure
When in change mode, please note:
- You can only enter a revision level which has been defined in Customizing (Engineering change management -> Revision levels) for materials.
You can display a list of possible entries. - You can only assign each revision level to a material change with change number once.
