Definition

System in which applications run on a common database.

A client corresponds to a logical system. In the definition of a client, you can specify which logical system the client is.

The logical system is relevant for the following SAP areas:

  • ALE, general: there is a communication between two or several logical systems.
  • ALE, distribution scenarios (cost center calculation, for example): definition of the system in which a particular application is running. It could be that master data changes can only be made in this system, for example.
  • Workflow objects: the logical system containing the object is always contained in the object key

When specifying the logical system, you must observe the following:

  • The logical system must be used throughout your company. It must not be used by any other system in the ALE system network.
  • In the productive system, the logical system must not be changed after a non-initial value has been entered. If a non-initial logical system is changed subsequently, it is possible that documents in that system may be lost. If the logical system for a document reference does not correspond to a user system, the system assumes that the document is in another system.
