Definition

The release status is a means to document the lifecycle of objects that can be used by other objects. It informs the customer or developer about whether an object can or cannot be used, and whether restrictions apply.

A release status can be set for the following objects:

  • service interfaces
  • semantic contracts
  • contracts
  • processing types

Meaning of the Release Statuses

Not Released

Objects with this release status have not been released yet and cannot be used in the current release.

Stability    SAP reserves the right to change or delete this object without prior warning.

Support    SAP does not offer any support for this object.

Possible status changes    SAP may later set the release status of the object to Released with Restrictions or Released.

Released with Restrictions

Objects in this release status can be used but SAP does not guarantee stability.

Stability    SAP reserves the right to change or revoke the release of this object without prior warning.

Support    SAP provides support for this object in the current release.

Possible status changes    SAP may later set the release status of the object to Released or Revoked. In the latter case, the object does not pass through the Released and Deprecated phases.

Released

Objects in this status can be used without restrictions in the current release.

Stability    SAP guarantees that it will announce any incompatible changes it makes to this object.

Support    SAP provides support for this object.

Possible status changes    SAP may decide to no longer use the object in a future release. In this case, SAP will set the object to Deprecated before revoking the release.

Deprecated

Objects in this release status will no longer be used by SAP in future releases. This status is a temporary one, to inform customers and developers of the transition from Released to Revoked. This gives them time to make any changes made necessary by the change of the release status. For each object with release status Deprecated, SAP provides a replacement object and the release in which the status was changed to Deprecated (for reference purposes). Objects in this status can still be used in the release in which they were set to Deprecated.

Stability    SAP guarantees that the object will remain stable for the current release but informs customers that the release will be revoked in a future release. For more information about how long you can still use the object, see the general SAP release strategy.

Support    SAP provides support for this object as long as it has the status Deprecated.

Possible status changes    SAP changes the status to Revoked as soon as the transition phase is complete.

Revoked

Objects in this release status were released for use in a previous release (either with or without restrictions). SAP has revoked this release. Objects with this release status can no longer be used.

Stability    SAP leaves the object in the Metadata Repository. It must no longer be used.

Support    SAP does not offer any support for this object.

Possible status changes    SAP makes no further changes to the release status for this object.

Dependencies

The usage and meaning of the release status corresponds to the usage of the release state for message interfaces in the Enterprise Services Repository. For more information, see the SAP Help Portal documentation of the release state of Service Interfaces in the Enterprise Services Repository.
