Definition
Characteristic of an operation or a resource, which the system is to consider when sheduling and rescheduling operations on the resources.
Use
- For single resources to adjust the setup time and optimize setup
Setup groups are used to schedule operations on a single resource. They model the setup costs and setup times that are dependent on the sequence of operations on the resource. The setup status, which is required for processing an operation on the resource, is defined in the operation by a setup group. The setup duration and setup costs for each possible setup transition on the resource, that is, each change between two setup statuses, are recorded in a setup matrix, which is assigned to the resource. The system uses this setup matrix to determine the duration of the setup activities, the setup time, and the most economic sequence of operations on the resource when scheduling or optimizing setup.
You can define setup keys in order to classify the setup statuses within a setup group more precisely. You can use setup keys to define exceptional setup transitions in the setup matrix.
- For multi-resources to synchronize activities
Setup groups are used to schedule activities on a multi-resource. They synchronize activities that have the same duration plus one other common characteristic, that is, they schedule activities either simultaneously or without overlapping on the resource. The characteristic is represented by the setup group that is assigned to the operation in the production process model.
For example, two temperature activities that have the same duration and require the same temperature can be scheduled to take place simultaneously in one oven. In this case, a setup group represents a specific temperature.
Note: Synchronization and adjustment/optimization of setup times is only possible for resources that are only used as primary resources in modes in the production process model.
Procedure
Create setup groups and setup keys in the APO under Master Data > Master Data for Production.
