Definition
Characteristic of an operation or a resource. The system is to consider this characteristic when scheduling and rescheduling operations at resources.
Use
- For adjusting the setup time and optimizing the setup for single resources.
You use a setup group to define a setup status for the operation. This setup status is required for processing the operation at the resource. A setup matrix is assigned to the resource. In this matrix, the setup duration and costs are recorded for each possible setup transition at the resource, that is, for each change between two setup statuses. During scheduling and setup optimization, the system uses the setup matrix to calculate the duration of the setup activities, and the optimum sequence for the operations at the resource as regards setup times and costs.
You can define setup keys to classify setup statuses within a setup group. You can use setup keys to define exceptional setup transitions in the setup matrix.
- For synchronizing activities at multi-resources
You use setup groups when planning activities at multi-resources to synchronize activities that have the same duration and one other characteristic in common. This means you can schedule activities at a resource so that they are simultaneous, or so that they do not overlap. The setup group represents the characteristic that is assigned to the operation in the production process model.
When synchronizing, you can schedule activities, such as temperature activities, to take place at the same time in one oven, if they have the same duration and require the same temperature. In this case, the setup group represents a specific temperature.
Note: You can synchronize or adjust/optimize the setup times for resources only if they are used exclusively as primary resources in modes in the production process models.
Procedure
You create setup groups and setup keys in the APO under Master Data --> Master Data for Production.
