Definition
Variable, that is, quantity-dependent cost, that derives from using this production version. The variable portion of the costs, which results from staging the components, is contained in these parameters.
Use
This parameter is used for the scheduling heuristic in PP/DS. If there is a product shortage, then all possible sources of supply are first determined. This includes transportation lanes and production versions. These are sorted according to their costs. The sources of supply with the lowest costs are checked first. If the product can be procured on time, the search is cancelled. If this is not possible, then the source with the next highest cost is checked.
