Documentation
Definition
The priority indicator controls which alternative mode of an activity is selected for planning in APO.
Use
You can create various modes for an activity, since you can carry out the activity on various primary resources. These alternatives are not usually of the same standard: it is preferable to use a fast, expensive special machine to its full capacity, than to use the slower, cheaper spare machine.
For this reason, you assign each mode a priority, which APO uses for these alternatives during planning. A mode with priority A has the highest priority, a mode with priority B has the next highest priority, and so on.
You assign the lowest priority to the mode for which you only wish to plan a resource manually on the planning board. These are resources that you want to use for production in exceptional cases only, for example, machines for testing or training.
