Definition

This indicator specifies whether and how modes from two activities, for which you have maintained a predecessor/successor relationship, are to be linked together.

The mode linkage represents a connection between two modes, which must be observed during planning and optimizing in APO. This means that the linked modes must take place one after the other and cannot be interrupted by a mode from a third activity.

Use

You can link modes in the following ways:

  • Mode linkage because of identical resources

In this case, modes from two successive activities will be linked if you have entered the same production resource as the primary resource.

    Example:

Activity 1 (Mode 1 with production resource 4711)

Activity 2 (Mode 5 with production resource 4711)

The two modes will be linked together if you have specified that the modes of the activities are to be linked because they have identical resources.

  • Mode linkage because of identical mode numbers

In this case, the modes will be linked together if they have the same number. Both activities must also have the same number of modes.

    Example:

Activity 1 (Mode 1 with production resource 4711)

Activity 2 (Mode 1 with production resource 4722)

The two modes will be linked together if you have specified that the modes of the activities are to be linked because they have identical mode numbers.

  • No mode linkage

If you do not wish to link modes together, enter No mode linkage.

Dependencies

You must specify the type of mode linkage only if the process structure is to be used for shop floor production.
