Definition

Sates whether and how the rounding value for calculating the production time is used. The system rounds the activity duration up to the next value that is evenly divisible by the rounding value. This allows you to represent activity durations which increase in steps.

There are three options:

  • The rounding value is not used
  • Quantity/Duration (Rate)
  • For example, a piece of equipment requires 10 minutes to process 5 pieces of a material simultaneously. In this case, you enter 5 for the rounding value and 10 for the variable duration of the activity.

The activity must be completed once in order to process an order for 5 pieces. The machine needs 1x10 minutes=10 minutes.
The activity must be completed twice in order to process an order for 7 pieces. The machine needs 2x10=20 minutes.
Note that you must account for rounding errors when you use this setting.

  • Increment (Size of Step)
  • You have another piece of equipment that also requires 10 minutes to process 5 pieces of the material simultaneously. In this case, the variable duration always refers to a unit of measurement of the product being processed and would be 2 minutes for 1 piece in this case. As 5 pieces are always processed simultaneously, the increment in this case is 10 minutes.

To process an order for 7 pieces, the activity must be completed twice, that is, 2x10 = 20 minutes.
