Documentation
Definition
Key for a workstation application.
Use
You can use the application to create or edit original files (such as text files) directly from the document info record. You can also store the orignal files in a secure area (storage category).
Dependencies
The following entries are required in a document info record in order for you to edit an original file using an application:
- You must clearly identify the storage location (path for the original file).
- If the original file is stored on a different computer, you must also create a data carrier.
In Customizing for Document Management, several settings influence the processing of original files.
See also: Settings for the Workstation Application
The user must have authorization for the document type to start the application (See also: Authorization Object C_DRAW_DOK).
Example
You can create the following applications in a document info record:
- Acrobat Reader
- MS PowerPoint
- MS Word 6.0
When you have stated in Customizing (Define Document Type) that the MS Word aplication is to be proposed, this application is already preset when you create an original file.
Supplementary Documentation - PPE_DAPPL 0010
Use
The system determines the workstation application, which you enter in the profile, in the following situations:
- Display Document and Display Product Structure, when the Display indicator is also set.
- Print Document (for example, from an external document management system), when the Print indicator is also set.
Dependencies
When you display or print documents, these settings act like a filter.
Example
In the profile P-1, you enter the following workstation applications and set the Display indicator:
- WRD (Microsoft Word)
- TIF (TIFF format)
When a user who is assigned to the profile P-1 chooses the Display Document function, only originals that have been edited with these two applications are displayed on the Document Data and Originals tab pages.
