Definition

A posting period is a self-contained part of a fiscal year.

Use

Every business transaction is allocated to a posting period. The monthly debits and credits of the different business transactions are accumulated per posting period.

Examples of period classifications:

  • Per calendar month -> 12 posting periods
  • Every 4 weeks -> 13 posting periods
  • Weekly -> 52 or 53 posting periods
