Definition
Enables you to specify the type of assignment, that is, the employee's work abroad. This can be either a short-term (up to 183 days) or a long-term assignment (up to 5 years).
The assignment type has a direct impact on the compensation package and on the checklist items, as described below:
- Long-term assignees are more likely to receive a hardship allowance. In contrast, short-term assignees are usually offered higher compensation packages, especially if they are sent to remote areas.
- Housing is settled differently according to the duration of the assignment.
- Application procedures for legal documents may differ according to the country.
Moreover, if the duration of the assignment exceeds 183 days, the assignee is legally obliged to pay taxes in his home country (US-relevant only). This aspect, however, is dealt with in infotype Commuting Details (0708).
Per default, the SAP system is shipped with two assignment types (short- and long-term assignments). However, if you need additional types for the assignee(s) you are processing, you can create new ones in the relevant customizing step (Management of Global Employees > Assignment Master Data > Define Assignment Types).
