Documentation
Definition
Specifies that the system takes into account alternative packing instructions in automatic expansion. That is, if the full material quantity cannot be packed using the main packing instruction, the system attempts to pack any remaining unpacked quantities using alternative packing instructions.
Procedure
If you flag the indicator, the system takes into account alternative packing instructions in automatic expansion.
If you leave the indicator blank, the system only takes the main packing instruction into account in automatic expansion.
Examples
754 pieces of a material are to be packed, and the system determines main packing instruction P1 and an alternative packing instruction, P2.
Packing instruction P1 can be used to pack 660 pieces. There is a remaining quantity of 94 pieces that cannot be packed using packing instruction P1.
If this indicator has been flagged, the system automatically attempts to pack the 94 pieces using packing instruction P2. Otherwise, the alternative packing instruction is not used and the 94 pieces remain unpacked.
Dependencies
The system attempts to use the alternative packing instructions in the sequence in which they are entered in the determination record. This enables you to use this indicator, in combination with the Respect rounding/minimum quantity indicator, to determine and expand packing instructions based on quantity.
Example
The determination record for material ABS and customer 1 has packing instructions P1, P2 and P3:
Target qty Minimum qty Rounding qty
P1 400 200 100
P2 200 50 50
P3 10 n/a n/a
If both this indicator Consider alternative packing instruction and the indicator Respect rounding/minimum quantity are flagged, the following situations could result:
Quantity to be packed Result of packing instruction expansion
800 2 x P1
630 1 x P1, 1 x P2, 3 x P3
320 1 x P1 (3 layers), 2 x P3
40 4 x P3
