Documentation
Definition
Under certain conditions excess earnings can be prorated between provinces. These conditions are:
- The employee's combined income has to exceed the provinces maximum ceiling.
- Part of the combined earnings are being reported to the workers' compensation board (WCB) in another province (except Nova Scotia).
How to calculate the prorated assessable earnings:
- To determine the combined earnings, add the employee's assessable earnings from all jurisdictions.
- To receive the province excess, subtract the province maximum ceiling from the combined earnings.
- Divide the province earnings by the combined earnings and multiply by the province excess (from the previous step). This is the prorated excess.
- To determine the prorated province assessable earnings, subtract the prorated excess from the province earnings.
The numbers are based on the period numbers. Prorating the assessable earnings should only be done at the end of the reporting year. The selection time frame should therefore be set to the start and the end of the reporting year.
