Documentation
Definition
This field holds the first two characters to be returned in the HESA staff return in field Unit of Assessment (UoA).
The first two characters indicate the UoA the employee was associated with in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
Note
Use code 99 for employees who are not eligible for a UoA assignment despite having an academic contract, and meeting the definitions of category A or C.
For example, vice-chancellors or deans who are on academic contracts but have no academic duties. Assign this code instead to employees who are eligible for a UoA assignment because of their association with 2008 RAE.
Retain the default code XX when:
- Activity code fields (24, 27, 30) in the contract table contain codes 1, 2B, 3A, 3B, 3C, 4A, 4B, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or XX
- Activity code fields (24, 27, 30) in the contract table contain the code 2A, but the employee is not eligible to be included as either category A or C in the 2008 RAE
- The employee is an atypical staff
