Definition

The SSP/SMP Period Indicator shows the status of the employee's absence. There are four values:-

1. SSP Period of Incapacity for Work (PIW).
   This refers to an employee who is eligible for SSP and for whom a PIW has been established. A PIW is a period of four or more consecutive calendar days when the employee is unable to work due to sickness or injury.
2. Sickness Excluded from SSP.
   This refers to an employee who is unable to work due to sickness or injury but does not satisfy the conditions to receive SSP.
3. SMP Maternity Absence.
   This refers to an employee who has provided medical evidence of pregnancy and satisfies the other conditions to receive SMP.
4. Maternity Absence Excluded from SMP.
   This refers to an employee who is on maternity absence but does not satisfy the conditins to receive SMP.
