Documentation
Definition
There are four types of registration card, distinguished by colour. They are as follows:
- Blue card - Full rate
Employees issued with a blue card are required to pay full rate contributions. The employer is also liable to pay contributions on the employee's assessable earnings.
- Red card - Reduced rate
Married women and certain widows can elect to pay reduced rate contributions. The employer, however, continues to pay contributions at the full rate.
- Orange card - Employer only
Issued to the employee on request from the Social Security Authority.
From the week or month following an employee's 65th birthday, he or she is not required to pay contributions. The employer can stop deducting the employee's contributions once he receives an orange registration card from the employee. The employer, however, continues to pay contributions at the full rate. - Green card - Student
A green registration card is issued for any local student who is over school-leaving age, under 18, and receiving full-time education. A green card indicates no liability for the employer or employee.
