Definition
Unit of measurement in which material stocks are managed. The system converts all quantities that you have entered in other units of measure (alternative units of measure) to the base unit of measure.

Dependencies
Because the system updates all data in the base unit of measure, the unit of measure you define with regard to the conversion of alternative units of measure is particularly important. A quantity in the alternative unit of measure can only be accurately represented if the value you specify in thesystem can be represented using the number of decimal places available. In order to ensure this, you should observe the following basic rules:
- The base unit of measure is the unit used that best satisfies the highest degree of accuracy required.
- Conversions of alternative units of measure to the base unit of measure should produce simple decimal fractions (for example, not 1/3 = 0,333).
Inventory Management
In Inventory Management, the base unit of measure has the same significance as the stockkeeping unit.
Service
Several units of measure exist for services, for example,
Service unit
(Unit of measure on the uppermost level. The exact quantity specifications of individual services are located respectively on the most detailed level of the service line).
Global
(Unit of measure on the service line for services to be performed only once, and for which an exact quantity cannot or may not be specified).
