Definition
The issue number is part of a consecutive numbering of issues for an edition in a year. The number can be assigned in a variety of ways:
It is possible to assign the issue number manually. It is then assigned during manual individual processing and collective processing of issues.
The issue number can also be assigned automatically by a program. In this case, the program should be started with the appropriate selection criteria.
Automatic numbering can be performed for each edition or for all editions (for one publication) depending on the setting specified for each edition.
Tabular issue maintenance also provides a semi-automatic method of assigning issue numbers. Numbering is performed for a year number of an issue.
You can also combine these three procedures. For example, you could perform numbering for a whole year of an edition or publication in a first step. If changes take place afterwards (such as the addition or deletion of issues), numbering can then be repeated automatically, semi-automatically or manually.
The consistency of the issue numbers is not always guaranteed. Please note the following problem:
If, for example, a user creates a new issue in a period for which numbering has already taken place, renumbering does not take place automatically. The system simply displays a warning reminding the user to start automatic numbering.
