'*' = The characteristic value is an interval.

'>' = The characteristic value is a value list.

'+' = The characteristic value is a value list with intervals.

'-' = The characteristic value could not be displayed completely;
part of the string was cut off.

If the indicator field is left blank, the characteristic value is a single value.
