Definition

Explains the function of a query field in SAP BW. The fields have three main functions:

  1. Characteristics

There are two types of characteristic; general characteristics and time-characteristics.

  1. Key figures

There are the following types of key figure:

  1. Basic key figure
    This type of key figure is stored directly in the InfoCube.
  2. Calculated key figures
    The values for this type of key figure are the result of a calculation involving other key figures. These other key figures may also have been involved in previous calculations themselves.
  3. Restricted key figures
    The values for this type of key figure are not determined until certain characterisitc have been restricted.

  1. Variables

Variables are defined based only on existing characteristics in an InfoCube. They restrict the quantity of data that you want to select for reporting. There are two types of variables; general variables and time-variables.
