Load information

Use

A server is overloaded if at any one time it receives more requests than it can process. This increases the requirement for resources in the request queue where unprocessed requests are stored temporarily. The request queue can be displayed in transaction SM51(menu path -> Goto-> Information-> Queue Information). The current utilization of work processes can be displayed in transaction SM50. In SM50 you can also see the history of the workload situation. Usually, only one specific work process type (for instance, dialog or batch) is overloaded; this is indicated in SM50.

The system knows the following load situations:

  • Normal load: No workload information is displayed.
  • High load: The workload information includes the following values:
    • Type of queue that is overloaded
    • Current workload (as a pair: work process utilization/queue length)
    • Workload at start of overload situation (as a pair: work process utilization/queue length)
  • Resources exhausted: In this case the server writes additional information to the developer trace files and creates a snapshot. The snapshot can be displayed with SAP MMC.

If the overload status continues for quite some time, you should check the configuration of the system and server.
