Definition
During the split, the highest-level handling units (HUs that are not packed in other HUs) in the shipment should be interpreted as handling units of a planning nature.
The only handling units that should be interpreted as handling units of a planning nature include: highest-level handling units and handling units that are packed exclusively in handling units of planning nature. For the purposes of the subsequent delivery split, these handling units illustrate transportation chains in which delivery quantities could be packed on a truck in the preliminary leg and on a train in the main leg, for example. If the system recognizes these handling units as planning handling-units, they are hidden in most of the delivery-split functions (in the foreground and during various consistency checks, for example).
During this process, it is necessary that all deliveries of the split result that contain quantities that are packed in a planning handling-unit remain assigned to the corresponding shipment. In other words, the split does not unpack quantities from handling units of a planning nature during the split.
You can set in Customizing whether the planning nature of handling units should be determined according to the packaging material category (attribute of the packaging material type) and the handling unit's loading status. More precise differentiation is available only by using coded (ABAP) rules in a special user exit.
