Definition
Specifies whether the target costs are calculated on the basis of the current standard cost estimate for the material.
Use
You calculate the target costs on the basis of a standard cost estimate in the following situations:
- In variance calculation to calculate the total variances
The total variances are calculated using target cost version 0. The variances calculated using target cost version 0 are the only variances that are relevant to settlement.
- To valuate the work in process and scrap if you don't want to (or cannot) perform this valuation using a preliminary cost estimate for a production order, process order, or product cost collector, nor on the basis of a material cost estimate
Procedure
You turn on this indicator as an alternative strategy for valuating the work in process and scrap in the valuation variant for work in process and scrap. (See also: Define valuation variant for WIP and scrap (target costs).)
If you always want to calculate the work in process or scrap using the target costs calculated on the basis of a standard cost estimate, do not create a corresponding valuation variant. The system then calculates the work in process and scrap with the standard costs calculated on the basis of a standard cost estimate.
Examples
Suppose you have defined the following strategy sequence in the valuation variant for work in process and scrap:
- 1 Planned costs / version-specific cost estimate
- 2 Alternative material cost estimate
- 3 Current standard cost estimate
If the system cannot find a preliminary cost estimate for the order or an alternative material cost estimate with the specified costing variant and costing version, it valuates the work in process and scrap on the basis of the standard cost estimate for the calculated target costs.
Dependencies
- In make-to-stock production, if you turn on this indicator the system selects the standard cost estimate for the material.
- In sales-order-related production, you can only calculate variances and scrap if you are using a valuated sales order stock.
In this case, if you turn on this indicator the system will select the cost estimate used to calculate the standard price.
You define how the standard costs are calculated with a valuated sales order stock under: Check requirements classes.
For detailed information on the valuation of work in process and scrap, and on variance calculation and the valuation of goods receipts and on stanard price calculation with a valuated sales order stock, see the document Cost Object Controlling.
If you have changed the reporting point structure in the order, work in process and scrap cannot be valuated on the basis of a standard cost estimate for the material.
